Easter Sunday
During our Good Friday service, we read through the narrative of Jesus’ journey to the cross. There was betrayal, there was abandonment, there was denial by one of His staunchest followers, there were false accusations, and vicious vitriol from the leaders and people. But as hurtful and burdensome that might be on one’s spirit, this was then coupled with a brutal, violent, and excruciating journey to the cross.
But Jesus was not the only Jew crucified, in fact there had been thousands of Jews who had been crucified before Jesus, it is likely that many may have suffered a longer more painful death. So why the significance of Jesus’ crucifixion? Firstly, because His was the most egregious injustice in history, for Jesus was sinless, pure, and divine; and secondly, HE IS RISEN!
Take a moment, today, and in the coming weeks, to ponder the significance of this fact, that after obediently going to the cross for our sin, suffering and then dying, CHRIST IS RISEN, HE IS RISEN INDEED!
