Third Sunday of Advent (JOY)
“Love One Another”
Kia Ora,
I’m Dong-bin Kim, an Associate Outreach Pastor at Upper City Community, a missional initiative of the Northern Presbytery. I work closely with Rev. Won Hyuk Joung.
Until last year, I served in a Korean migrant church, but my passion for reaching unchurched people and building a missional church led me to join this ministry. It has been a deeply rewarding experience, embracing this fresh expression of church life.
Today, I’ll be sharing about the love Jesus teaches in John 13:34-35.
This love, modelled by Jesus, is selfless, sacrificial, and humble. He washed His disciples feet, including Judas, who would betray Him, and Peter, who would deny Him. His actions teach us that love is a choice to serve others, even in the hardest circumstances.
Jesus also makes this love the defining mark of discipleship. It’s not about rituals or knowledge but reflecting God’s heart through kindness and humility. At WeCare, we see this in action, offering tea, warmth, and care to strangers. Such simple acts often open hearts to God’s love.
Finally, love is our mission. Jesus challenges us to extend grace to everyone—even those who oppose us. As Christmas approaches, let’s embody His love, creating spaces where all feel valued and cared for. Let’s live out His command, making His love visible in our daily lives.
Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
